| The Best Singer |
16 Pages 978-964-300-437-8 | | | Illustrator: | Goldouzian, Alireza | Publisher: | Shokoofeh Books,Amirkabir, Iran | Writer: | Behroz Kia, Kamal | Abstract: | Once upon a time, there was an old cat who lived near a village. The cat could not hunt anymore. His claws were not sharp anymore and he had only two or three teeth left. Not only could not he hunt mice and partridges, he was so weak that he could hardly hunt chicks.
The old cat lived alone and had no one. Most often he fed on cockroaches, lizards and bugs. He really longed to have a real meal after all this time.
At daytime he sat close to the village and watched the roosters and chickens from a far distance. Sometimes the chickens and roosters fed on seeds and grains. And sometimes the chickens sat in the shadow while the roosters sang.
There was a rooster called 'Cock-a-doodle-do'. It had the most beautiful voice. Each day he practiced singing and wanted to sing better than before. He wanted to be admired by others. Even the people of the village recognized his songs. Once he sang, the breeze blew; as if the leaves and flowers and the children of the village could study better in the classroom.
The old cat wanted to become friends with Cock-a-doodle-do. On the other hand Cock-a-doodle-do was looking for a friend who would help him make some progress in singing.
